Types of gynecomastia
They are distinguished by the type of tissue:

They are distinguished by the degree of development:
- unilateral gynecomastia - the problem is diagnosed only on one breast. In this case, patients seek help at an earlier stage;
- bilateral gynecomastia - the problem is diagnosed on both mammary glands. The number of such cases is statistically higher than with unilateral. This type of disease is characterized by later visits to doctors for help.
The main causes of gynecomastia:
- imbalance of testosterone and estrogen in favor of the latter. The cause of this imbalance, in turn, is tumors of the pituitary gland, pancreas, adrenal glands, stomach, lungs, and several other diseases;
- an increase in the production of prolactin (a female hormone that ensures lactation and breast milk production) caused by neoplasms on the pituitary gland, as well as hypothyroidism;
- a general metabolic disorder that occurs in systemic diseases, ranging from tuberculosis to diabetes mellitus;
- obesity, which is both a consequence of metabolic disorders and caused by beer alcoholism (beer contains a significant amount of phytoestrogens, “female” hormones) and a sedentary lifestyle;
In addition, traumatic lesions of the chest, taking certain medications (hormones), intoxication (including alcohol or drugs), and human immunodeficiency virus can be the causes.
Symptoms
